Andria and Charis are total sweethearts! Warm, elegant and always ready for the fun times, they won me over soon as we got to talk about capturing their romantic wedding in Nicosia. Τhis incredible couple met in September 2007 in Brighton U.K. when they both embarked on their studies in architecture. Ten years later they took a holiday to Athens where Charis popped the question.
Their big day was filled with moments of emotion as we kicked off their preparations with Cypriot customs and a lot of love and laughs from their relatives. It’s such a grand thing to be close to tradition and I can’t photograph enough of these moments (in their photos you get to see how Cypriots roll- talk about big exuberant families, plus endless kisses from moms).
I then moved on to document the bridal preparations. Think a bouquet of lovely bridesmaids all making sure our beautiful bride shone. Soon Andria was all prepped in a beautiful Mitsu Mitsu gown and stunning Jimmy Choos, wrote down the names of her best maids on her shoe (see later post about this custom) and we headed to church. I loved how the two exchanged meaningful glances during the ceremony -eyes speak louder than words when you’re that close- and I’m sure they exchanged several comments in their silent language (you’ll see it in their images).
After the ceremony where the bride and groom got showered in rose petals and rice, we headed to shoot their bridal portraits outdoors. We’ve found this old abandoned quarry with railroad tracks and got to capture a collection of atmospheric images that I really treasure. The moody ambiance created an artistic backdrop as if from another place and time. The two got some time to spend alone -really I can’t stress how important that is on a wedding day, scheduling a neat time-line and sticking to the plan so you have plenty of time alone together!
Needless to say we got dearly missed, so when we returned to their wedding reception dinner the applauses and cheers literally hit the fan! The lovely Mr and Mrs were welcomed with sparklers and the dances started right away only to last until morning. Gazing at the beautiful rows of lights glowing and the two of them slowly dancing I felt so grateful to have been part of this! Congrats new family!
